What Happened to Highwoods Creek Outfitters after the Raid?

Posted by

We wrote about the Highwoods Creek Outfitters Raid back in June. Many letters were sent. Many famous people expressed outrage. The blogosphere boiled over. Gun forums were ablaze with righteous indignation.

So what happened since then?

Nothing. Zilch. Nada.

Have there been any responses to the letters sent demanding information and explanations from the IRS by our representatives? If there were, no one is talking about it.

Everything in Google News on this topic is over a month old, except for news about the “Why Does the IRS Need Guns Act.” Yeah, that’s not going anywhere.

There’s a GiveSendGo campaign for Highwoods Creek Outfitters to help with their anticipated legal defense. As of today, they’ve only raised $25K against an expected $500K in legal expenses. The shop is for sale, but it’s been for sale since July 2022. Supposedly there was a rally to support the store on July 1, but there’s been no news of what happened.

But here’s the dog that hasn’t barked: Where is the indictment? The situation was so dire that the IRS had to come in strong with a SWAT style raid to grab the store’s Form 4473 records. But since then…. No arrests? Nothing??? It’s been six weeks. There isn’t even a plea from the owner to donate money to help him with his “massive tax problem.” Makes one think that perhaps this raid wasn’t about financial issues or tax fraud. (Note for the sarcasm impaired: There’s no evidence that he has any tax issue at all. In fact, he’s denied that he makes much money.)

No one in the media has followed up with our representatives to find out if they received answers from their letters. They’ve moved on to the next shiny object. Our state Attorney General assures us there is nothing he can do. John Tester remains silent and he never even acknowledged the situation.

This was a trial run. The Biden administration has now learned that they can send in the IRS to seize records that they are specifically barred by law from taking, and no one will do anything about it except write a few strongly worded letters and complain on right wing forums.

How about the media start doing their job and hold the politician’s feet to the fire about following up on this. Rosendale, Zinke, Daines, and Knudsen all made political hay and received TV, radio, and social media attention for expressing their concern. But what have they — the politicians AND the media — done lately?
