HB 551, the bill that would fix the racist roots of gun control in Montana, is still alive. MSSA sent out this email:
Dear MSSA Friends,
The Senate Judiciary Committee amended HB 551 today to change “or” to
“and” and then, surprisingly advanced the bill immediately to Second
Reading on the Senate floor. It got 32 votes where we hoped it would
get 34.
Senators Esp and Welborn switched and voted for the bill – good for them.
However, Tempel hung in as a no vote and Salomon switched from yes to
no for this vote.
Tomorrow will be the critical Senate vote for Third Reading, the vote
that counts to get this constitutional change on the ballot so the
people can vote.
We urgently need you to get messages to Tempel and Salomon this
evening and tomorrow (Wednesday) morning asking them to support HB 551
on Third Reading.

dan.salomon@legmt.gov – 406-253-9724
Use both email and phone, and text messages to phone (if that works).
Also use the legislative message system.

Remember, the Subject should be, “Please support HB 551.”
Together we can do this, but we must have your help. Sorry about the
short notice, but that’s just how legislation works.
Thanks so much for your help!
You know what to do!
